Scope and Contents
This is C.J. Round's memoir giving insights into the everyday working of the Press staff and significant events such as the First and Second World Wars, the opening of the American Branch in New York in 1949, and the granting of an Honorary Degree by Cambridge Univesity. It contains:
- an account of his working life at the Press from 1902 to 1953
- copies of photographs of staff on Press outings, cricket matches and sports days
- copies of photographs of individuals such as R.J.L. Kingsford, C.F. Clay, B. Ince, C.C. Ruark, C.F. Eccleshare, R.W. David, Ronald Mansbridge, Jack Schulman and H.S. Bennett
- copies of phtographs of buildings (Fetter Lane, Euston Road before and after Bentley House was constructed, and Paternoster Row)
- floor plans of Press premises at Ave Maria Lane in 1902, St Dunstan's House (133-137 Fetter Lane) in 1905 and in 1938, and Bentley House in the 1930s
- a street plan with names and a numbered key for publishing and book-related businesses located around Ava Maria Lane and Paternoster Row
- an interior view of the Purchase Accounts Department with staff in 1936
- Roof watchers R.C. Steffens and G.T. Boote on the roof of Bentley House in 1944
