Preamble: letters patent; writ of assizes; gaol delivery commission.

  1. 1r. Gabriel Grene of Wisbech, labourer, is indicted that on 2 Aug. 1619 he feloniously stole, took and carried away a pair of gloves to the value of six pence from Robert Large at Wisbech. Guilty; to be whipped.
  2. 2r. Edward Buckworthe of Wisbech esquire answered Richard Creycrofte esquire in an action of trespass on the close relating to a close called [Rommers] situated in Wisbech and a windmill, 1 Mar. 1619. Buckworthe fined; to pay costs and damages.
  3. 2v. Francis Brewster of Elm, gentleman, answered Richard Coxe in an action of trespass and assault that on 24 July 1619 he assaulted Coxe at Elm. There is discussion of an incident at a messuage called Needham in Elm on 19 July 1619 involving a spaniel dog and a mastiff. Brewster acquitted; Coxe fined for bringing a false claim.
  4. 3r. William Beales, alias Mansell, of Wisbech, labourer, answered William Carte in an action of trespass on the case and breach of promise relating to the payment of six pounds for one year’s food, drink and lodging at Carte’s house in Upwell, 31 Jan. 1617. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial.
  5. 3r. John Dennys of Wisbech, husbandman, answered John Springall in an action of trespass on the case relating to the payment for a quantity of fodder, 18 July 1619 at Elm. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial.
  6. 3v. Henry Denne of Wisbech, cordwainer and administrator of the goods and chattels of John Cole of Wisbech, vintner, who died intestate, is summoned to answer Bartholomew Ladley in an action of debt of ten pounds relating to a bill of obligation of 15 Aug. 1611 at Wisbech. To proceed to the next session.
  7. 4r. Francis Hill of West Walton, Norfolk, yeoman, answered Thomas Reynolds in an action of trespass on the case relating to a bill of obligation, 4 Mar. 1618 at Wisbech, in which Hill was bound to Nicholas Sanford, gentleman, in a sum of 38 shillings, and in turn Hill’s debt to Reynolds. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial.
  8. 4r. John Thompson of Tydd St Giles, yeoman, answered Thomas Foster in an action of trespass on the case relating to payment for his labour or service, 1 Oct. 1617 at Tydd St Giles. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial.
  9. 4v. Maurice Millwood of Haddenham, husbandman, answered Edward Phipers in an action of trespass that on 20 Sept. 1616 he entered Phipers’ close called Calley Croft in Haddenham and took 20 cart-loads of hay to the value of 20 pounds. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial.
  10. 4v. Thomas White of Ely, yeoman, answered Nicholas Massye, gentleman, in an action of trespass that on 24 July 1619 his livestock trampled and overgrazed the grass growing in Massye’s close lying in a field called Braham Field in Ely. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial.
  11. 5r. Isabel Kirkes of Haddenham, widow and administrator of the goods and chattels of Edward Kirkes of Aldreth in the parish of Haddenham, yeoman, who died intestate, is summoned to answer Peter Franckland, gentleman, in an action of debt of 50 pounds relating to a bond of obligation of 1 Aug. 1615 at Haddenham.   12. 5v. Isabel Kirkes of Haddenham, widow, answered Peter Franckland in an action of trespass on the case relating to a debt of ten pounds for which her brother, Thomas Maples, gentleman, undertook to assist, 31 Mar. 1619 at Haddenham. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial.
  13. 6r. William Wilkyn of Ely, yeoman, answered Thomas Tucke in an action of trespass on the case relating to diverse services and diverse goods and wares, 20 June 1619 at Ely. To proceed to the next session.
  14. 6v. Robert Grymer of Ely, yeoman, answered Richard Godlington in an action of trespass on the case relating to the sale and supply of 5000 hassocks from a place called Rossell in Ely, 2 Nov. 1615. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial.
  15. 6v. William Wilkyn of Ely, yeoman, answered Thomas Tuck in an action of trespass that on 4 Aug. 1619 he took and carried away a cart-load of wheat sheaves from a place called Priestmeadow Field at Ely. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial.
  16. 7r. Richard Gunton, [place of abode and occupation not stated], is summoned to answer Thomas Pamplyn in an action that on 31 July 1619 he took three steers and a heifer from a place called [Smithmedlands] at Sutton. There is discussion of the place and ownership of the land. To proceed to the next session.
  17. 7v. Thomas Tuck of Ely, grocer, answered William Wilkyn in an action of assault that on 1 June 1619 he assaulted Wilkyn at Ely. There is discussion of a messuage with appurtenances in Ely. To proceed to the next session.
  18. 8r. Thomas Steward esquire complains against Edmund Warter of Wisbech, gentleman, and attorney of this court, in an action of debt of 20 pounds relating to a bond of obligation of 15 Oct. 1614 at Wisbech. Steward fined; to pay costs and damages.
  19. 8r. Richard Warde of Emneth, Norfolk, yeoman, is summoned to answer Thomas Steward esquire in an action of debt of 20 pounds relating to a bond of obligation of 15 Oct. 1614 at Wisbech. Warde fined; to pay costs and damages.
  20. 9r. John Baron of Wisbech, yeoman, answered Richard Creycrofte esquire in an action of trespass of the case relating to a close called Inley situated in Wisbech and a windmill, 27 Feb. 1619. Baron fined; to pay costs and damages.
  21. 9v. Richard Greene and Francis Maltman, [places of abode and occupations not stated], are summoned to answer John Watson in an action that on 6 Apr. 1619 they took 11 rams, 11 ewes and 11 lambs from a place called the Pingle in Elm. There is discussion on the place and ownership of the Pingle and other pieces of land. To proceed to the next session.
  22. 10r. Joan Waightes of Stretham, widow, answered William Malyn in an action of trespass on the case that on 20 Apr. 1618 at Haddenham she slandered Malyn by publicly saying ‘You have stolen my lambs’. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial.
  23. 10r. Richard Gibbon of Reach, waterman, answered John [?Makum] and Alexander [?Makum] in an action of trespass on the case that on 30 Sept. 1616 at Ely he slandered them by publicly saying ‘You are thieves and you have stolen my brother’s tackle and I will prove it’. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial.
  24. 10v. Richard Love of Wisbech, yeoman, answered Nicholas Spilman in an action of trespass on the case relating to the sale of [a quantity of tobacco] on 30 Nov. [?1618] at Wisbech. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial. [This entry is faded, with some loss of text].
  25. 11r. Richard Greene and Francis Maltman, [places of abode and occupations not stated], are summoned to answer John Watson in an action that on 6 Apr. 1619 they took 11 rams, 11 ewes and 11 lambs from a place called the Pingle in Elm.
