  1. 1r. Richard Armes of March, labourer, is indicted that on 16 June 1601 he feloniously stole, took and carried away a net worth one shilling from Robert Pynder at March. Not guilty.
  2. 1r. William Smyth of Leverington, labourer, is indicted that on 8 May 1601 he feloniously stole, took and carried away seven ewes worth two shillings each and six lambs worth two shillings each from Peter Martyn at Leverington. Guilty; allowed benefit of clergy.
  3. 1v. William Paynter of Ely, glazier, is indicted that on 6 Apr. 1601 he feloniously stole, took and carried away 100 pounds of lead from a storehouse at Ely Cathedral. Guilty; allowed benefit of clergy.
  4. 1v. William Smyth of Leverington, labourer, is indicted that on 8 May 1601 he feloniously stole, took and carried away three [sheep] worth four shillings each, three ewes worth three shillings each and three lambs worth two shillings each from Richard Adam at Leverington.   5. 1v. William Foster of Wisbech, labourer, is indicted that on 7 Aug. 1601 he feloniously took and carried away a purse from William Sowtfyer containing 15 shillings in numbered money belonging to John Sowtfyer at Wisbech. Recommitted to gaol.
  6. 1v. George Holmes of Wimblington, labourer, is indicted that on 20 Apr. 1601 he feloniously stole, took and carried away a piece of bacon worth four pence from John Barnes at Wimblington. Confessed; to be whipped.
  7. 1v. Dorothy Hall of Wisbech, spinster, is indicted that on 30 May 1601 she feloniously took and carried away two hats to the value of 12 pence from Thomas Blaxley at Wisbech. Confessed; to be whipped.
  8. 2r. Michael Hall of Wisbech, glover, is indicted that on 30 May 1601 he feloniously took and carried away a silk cypress [satin] scarf to the value of ten pence from Thomas Blaxley at Wisbech. Confessed; to be whipped.

Thomas Gunton of Sutton, husbandman, answered William Tubbs in an action of trespass that on 4 Mar. 1601 he entered the close of Tubbs called Custannce Close at Whittlesey, and cut down and carried away 20 willow trees growing there to the value of 40 shillings. On the same day he entered Tubbs’ close called the Wight in Sutton, and mowed and took away grass growing there. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial.
  25. 4r. Thomas Gunton of Sutton, husbandman, answered William Tubbs in an action of trespass on the case that on 20 July 1601 he erected a timber post on a piece of land in Sutton preventing the passage of Gunton’s animals and carts. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial.

[93] John Browne, [place of abode and occupation not stated], answered Thomas Watson in an action of trespass on the case and breach of promise relating to the sale and supply of various victuals, namely bread, beer, butter, cheese and similar, at Clowes Cross Work, Tydd St Giles, 24 Sept. 1598. Browne to pay damages.

[94] Robert Cropley of Ely, gentleman, answered Thomas Flower, gentleman, in an action of trespass and ejection that on 29 Mar. 1601 he ejected Flower from a piece of marsh lying at Stuntney comprising 30 acres more or less which Lancelot Flower had leased to Thomas for a term which had not yet expired.   1. 19r. [95] Robert Snowden of Wisbech is indicted that on 31 July 1600 he feloniously stole and led away a grey horse worth three pounds from Richard Skochy at Wisbech. Not guilty.
  2. 19r. [96] Robert Sharpe of Newton, labourer, is indicted that on 19 Mar. 1600 he feloniously stole, took and carried away several bundles of hay worth ten pence from William Drew at Newton. Not guilty.

[97] Luke Hodson of Haddenham, labourer, and Christopher Moody of Haddenham, labourer, are indicted that on 25 Mar. 1600 they feloniously stole, took and carried away four measures of wheat to the value of 16 shillings from William France at Haddenham. Guilty; Hodson to be hanged, Moody allowed benefit of clergy.

  24. 23r. [118] William Drewe of Newton, yeoman, answered Robert Sharpe in an action of trespass on the case that on 1 May 1600 at Newton he publicly slandered Sharpe as a thief and accused him of stealing his hay. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial.

[119] Richard Smyth of Ely, yeoman, answered William March, gentleman, in an action of trespass on the case that on 5 June 1600 at Ely he publicly slandered him in saying March had arrested him on a bond of 40 pounds which he had never sealed and accusing Robert Harryson, the public notary, of falsely forging the bond. Damages to be assessed at the next session.
  26. 23v. [120] Henry Guylott of Stretham, miller, and Joan, his wife and executor of the will of John Bert lately her husband, is summoned to answer John Kyrke in an action of debt of ten pounds relating to a bond of obligation of 21 June 1598 at Haddenham. Henry and Joan fined.
  27. 23v. [121] Henry Foster of Sutton, husbandman, alias yeoman, is summoned to answer Thomas Cattell in an action of debt of 42 pounds relating to a bond of obligation of 8 Feb. 1599 at Sutton. The bond is recited. The entry is incomplete; no outcome stated.
