- 4r. William Hopkyns of Ely, gentleman, answered William Jenkynson in an action that on 3 Aug. 1558 Hopkyns negligently began a fire causing Jenkynson’s neighbouring dwelling house (in Ely situated next to Richard Mynne’s town house) to be burned. Hopkyns fined; to pay damages.
- 4r. John Sedgwycke of Outwell, Norfolk, yeoman, answered Robert Fyncham, gentleman, in an action of trespass that on 10 Mar. 1557/8 he forcibly entered Fyncham’s close at Elm and drove 120 young sheep with dogs. Sedwycke fined; to pay damages.

The case related to a piece of land called [?Swornehole close] leased to Marche by Andrew Perne, Doctor of Divinity and Dean of Ely Cathedral, for a period of 60 years.
- 4v. Thomas Gallant of Wilburton, gentleman, answered Thomas Cokyn in an action of trespass that on 10 May 1559 he took certain cattle, two horses and a [foal] belonging to Cokyn at Wilburton and detained them for a period of seven days. Gallant fined; to pay costs and damages.

(59) Thomas Lynsey of Downham, husbandman, answered William Bownet in an action of trespass on the case that on [date not stated] he slandered Bownet by publicly saying, ‘William Bownet did steal of the Lord of Ely’s bucks, three or four, and also he did steal and eat a dozen of my Lord’s pheasants and conies [rabbits].’ In response, Lynsey said further that Bownet ‘did steal venison at the house of [left blank]’. Pled not guilty; to proceed to jury trial.

- 9r. (66) Philip Salter of Wisbech, labourer, is indicted that on 25 Aug. 1560 he broke and entered the close and house of Richard Best at Wisbech and feloniously took and carried away 12 silver spoons worth four marks from a chest in the house. Not guilty.
- 9r. (67) Michael Rondes of Brampton, Huntingdonshire, is indicted that on 14 Oct. 1559 at about 11 o’clock in the night he feloniously drove and took away a brown stoned horse worth three pounds belonging to Thomas Dey at Ely.
- 9r. (68) Alexander Tayler of Tilney, Norfolk, labourer, is indicted that on 12 Jan. 1561 he feloniously took and drove 12 wethers worth four [pence] each belonging to William Pynder at Wisbech. Guilty; allowed benefit of clergy.

(97) John Gallant and Edward Wylkes answered William Adam, gentleman, in an action that on 21 July 1561 they took six horse colts and one mare colt belonging to Adam from a placed called Cowleyland [or Dowleyland] at Wisbech. This is a lengthy and complicated case with discussion of the place and ownership of various pieces of land. There is reference to an indenture between Gallant and Wylkes on the one part and John Goodrycke junior of East Kirkby, Lincolnshire, gentleman, and William Goodrycke, the son of John Goodrycke senior, esquire, on the other part.

(101) Richard Everarde esquire and Robert Skottarde brings a suit against Robert Balam esquire and Elizabeth, his wife, Thomas Orwell, alias Orell, and Anne, his wife, relating to ten acres of land and 80 acres of pasture with appurtenances in Wisbech and Leverington. - 14r. (102) William Adam of Tydd, gentleman, answered William Graye in an action of trespass on the case relating to a debt in the sum of 60 pounds relating to the sale, with a certain Simon Fysher, for 30 cattle, 10 Sept. 1559 at Wisbech. To proceed to jury trial.

(107) Edmund Jenkyn of Outwell, yeoman, John Adelffe senior, William Rayner, Robert Hawsted, all of Outwell, husbandman, and John Presgrave of Outwell, Norfolk, bricklayer, answered Godfrey Cryspe in an action that on 6 Feb. 1560 they, together with John Adelffe junior, assaulted Cryspe with weapons. - 17r. (115) Alice Fowler of Outwell, spinster, is indicted that on 2 Aug. 1561 she feloniously took and carried away 19 shillings and four pence in numbered money in a purse belonging to Robert Fyncham, gentleman, at Outwell. Guilty; no goods, chattels or lands to forfeit.
- 17r. (116) Robert Clercke, alias Jenson, of Outwell, labourer, is indicted that he knowingly aided and abetted Alice Fowler [see 115 above]. Guilty; allowed benefit of clergy.
- 17r. (117) Alice Dawson of Leverington, spinster, is indicted that on 22 July 1561 she feloniously took and carried away four shillings and six pence in numbered money in a purse belonging to James Algood at Leverington. Not guilty.

- 74v. (482) William Michell answered Thomas Jetherell in an action of trespass that on 14 Aug. 1566 his livestock trampled and overgrazed rye and crops growing in Jetherell’s close at Sutton causing damage to the value of ten pounds. To proceed to the next session.

(483) John Styward, gentleman, brought a suit against Thomas Bettys, gentleman, relating to the manor of Chatteris, 40 messuages, 40 tofts, a windmill, a dove-cot, 40 gardens, 200 acres of land, 60 acres of meadow, 300 acres of pasture, 300 acres of woodland, 2000 acres of marshland, eight fishponds, ten pounds of rents and the rectory of Chatteris with appurtenances in Chatteris and Doddington. In response, Wylye states that on the date and place aforesaid he said, ‘Men say you and your ancestors have been villeins unto the Bishop of Ely regarding to his manor of Wilburton’. - 81r. (503) Alice Wodroive [or Wodroyte] of Wisbech, spinster, is indicted that on 1 June 1566 she feloniously took and carried away three shillings and four pence from a purse belonging to Henry Daye of Sutton, Lincolnshire, yeoman, at Wisbech. Not guilty.

(504) Richard Bennett of Parson’s Drive, labourer, is indicted that on 30 July 1565 broke into the close of William Akers at Leverington, and feloniously took and carried away 28 shillings and four pence in numbered money from a purse belonging to William Swayne, the servant of William Akers, from Akers’ yard. Not guilty.

(505) Christopher Knyppe of Haddenham, labourer, is indicted that on 7 June 1566 he feloniously carried away two measures of woollen cloth to the value of 12 pence, a piece of rayle [rail] cloth to the value of three pence and a piece of kercher cloth to the value of two pence belonging to Joan Atkyn, widow, at Haddenham. Guilty; to be whipped.

(506) John Martyn of Downham, labourer, and Agnes Webbe of Coveney, spinster, are indicted that on 21 May 1566 they feloniously took and drove a black-hawked [spotted] worth 40 shillings, a black heifer worth 33 shillings and four pence, a black-pied heifer worth 26 shillings and eight pence, three brown heifers worth four pounds, a red [heyford] heifer worth 20 shillings and a pied heifer worth 20 shillings belonging to William Power of Killingworth [Kenilworth], Warwickshire, yeoman, at Ely.
