One-inch Old Series map of England and Wales. Scale 1:63,360, 1824 - 1893

Reference Code: GBR/3296/Maps/Maps.KGM 2.

Scope and Contents

Maps.KGM 2.1 = Hachured edition ; Maps.KGM 2.2 = Outline edition ; Maps.KGM 2,G.3 = Geological Survey. 'C' in the item code/classmark normally indicates a composite sheet. Maps.KGM 2.1 : C/1 = a set of maps in 10 boxes. Some of the other maps are stored in slip-cases made by Guy Messenger out of cardboard and black tape or sticky-back plastic. The phrase "Was in slip case made by Guy Messenger" indicates that the maps were taken out of the slip cases so that the sheets could be stored in numerical order. Unless otherwise stated (e.g. sheet "Maps.KGM 2.1 : 51") it is probable that the sheets have all been dissected. Although all maps are stated to be printed on paper, in some cases the paper has been mounted on linen. Some of the maps have covers made by Guy Messenger, usually out of pink cardboard with typed map details.
