Biographical / Historical

Maurice Moore joined the Ordnance Survey at their York Division Office in 1931, moving to Southampton in 1932. He enlisted in the Corps of Royal Engineers in 1933, and was posted to 19 Field Survey Corps at Fort Southwick, near Portsmouth. Following training he worked until the war on large scale map revision. His war service was mostly with the Survey Directorate, H.Q. Scottish Command, transferring in 1941 to 10 Field Survey Depot where he was responsible for supply of maps to all units in Scottish Command, later to be 23 Field Survey Depot. His service after the war until retirement in 1980 was with the Ordnance Survey in Edinburgh at the Sighthill and Rose Street offices, including a period in charge of a Continuous Revision section in the Borders.
