Genesis 1-3 in North African or Magrebi Arabic together with an extract from the Qur'an, 1847
Scope and Contents
ff.8 (total); 318 x 214mm; text size: first 4 folios (Genesis) 200 x 131mm, second 4 folios irregular, 18 lines to part a), irregular part b). Unbound, each part consists of two sheets, with no decoration apart from one line on f.1 verso in red ink.
Translated direct from the Hebrew by Joseph S. Coriat, a Jew of Tetuan "into the Arabic language as spoken in the present days in the empire of Morocco..." (f.1 recto).
f.8 verso bears an inscription in red ink: "A[cknowledge]d Dec 28, [18]47."
The second section contains Sūrat Ta and part of another Sūrat from the Qur'an. The text begins on f.1 verso, continues on f.3 recto, with f.2 verso being a copy of f.3 recto in a different hand. f.4 recto is a copy of f.1 verso (an incorrect copy).
