New Testament, 1749
Scope and Contents
ff.II + 165 + I; 308 x 219mm; text size 225 x 151mm; 33 or 34 lines, rebound by pasting individual leaves onto guard slips on inner side, black tooled leather over scrap paper covers.
Collation: 1(4) (blank, f.1 detached), ff.5-165, 2-16(10). The paper is watermarked by a) three half moons or b) one half moon, a flower and M. This is the same watermark as BFBS MS 31. Interlinear marks, chapter headings and some words have been written in red ink and there are a few marginal notes in Coptic.
Copied by Marqus Masraqī al-Mīlawī and dated 19 Tūt, 1465 (in the Coptic Calendar, i.e. 1749 A.D.) this MS has on the verso of the last folio a "waqf", or religious endowment, statement with a Coptic date.
A scarcely legible pencil note on f.1 recto reads "Bishop of Abouti..." which is probably Abu Tīg, near Asyūt Upper Egypt.
