'Umar ibn al-fārid was a celebrated Sūfī poet and this volume of his collected poems (dīwan) also included a lengthy (25 pages) biographical introduction by his grandson 'Ali who was the first to edit the dīwān. The beginning of this volume is defective, lacking he first few lines of 'Alī’s edition.
The first printed edition appeared in Marseilles in 1853 and has been printed several times subsequently. This copy does not correspond exactly to the printed edition despite being complete, apart from the defective beginning.
