Scope and Contents
ff. I + 276 + I; 223 x 146mm; text size 172 x 110mm in two columns of 35 lines, irregular collation, bound in red leather stamped in gilt on covers and spine, golden borders.
Ruled by pricking and hard point and decorated with ‘gates’ in yellow, orange, red, green, blue and black at 7 places in text beginning at f.12 recto and small floral motifs in the same colours at 18 places, beginning at f.176 recto.
This manuscript contains the New Testament (paged 1-521 in Amharic) and, among the preliminaries:-
ff.4-5 recto: Haile Selassie’s preface
f.6: explanation of abbreviations for chapters and verses etc.
f.7 recto: list of New Testament books with page numbers
p.521 (Amharic): list of bishops of Ethiopia at the time of production; date [1948 E.C.], and names of scribes.
