Papers of the Equatorial Africa Agency, 1935 - 1940
Scope and Contents
The Agency covered Angola, Belgian Congo, French Cameroun, French Equatorial Africa, Gold Coast, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar and Seychelles, Mauritius, Nigeria, Nyasaland, North Rhodesia, Sierra Leone, Tanganyika, Uganda, and Zanzibar. The papers consist of letters to the Agency Secretary, W.J. Mowll or (from 1937) W.J. Wiseman, and from the Secretary to correspondents living in the Agency countries or in the U.K. The correspondence is divided into regional files of letters arranged by country, with a separate series for Nigeria; two files concerning deputation work in the UK and orders; and a series of miscellaneous letters. There is also a bundle of editions of the ‘Bible Society News Sheet of Equatorial Africa, Madagascar and Mauritius’, some of which are in French. There is also one box of papers relating to a conference on African languages, held in London in May 1940.
