The Norwegian Bible Society was founded in 1816, but discontinued its links with London after refusing to accept the BFBS’s resolutions of 1826 on the publication of the Apocrypha. In 1828 a committee of four was formed to distribute BFBS editions, which was reorganised into a regular agency of the Society in 1832, alongside similar agencies in Christiansand, Stavanger, Bergen and Trondhjem. The new agency supervised the printing by the firm of Gröndahl & Son, Christiania (Oslo), and distribution of successive editions of the Bible without the Apocrypha and of the New Testament. In 1890 Charles Finch visited Norway and discussed with the Secretary of the Norwegian BS greater co-operation between the two societies. As a result, in 1890 the Christiania Agency was given permission to use the newly revised Bible published by the Norwegian BS. In 1893 the Norwegian BS agreed to take over the stocks and colporteurs of the BFBS and to invite agency members onto its committees. As a result the BFBS closed its own agencies at the end of 1894.
