Scope and Contents

The minutes record discussions about the printing of a Chinese New Testament text in the British Museum, the formation of a corresponding committee in Calcutta, and memoranda on Bible translations in Arabic and modern Greek. Letters and memoranda are included from Antonio Montucci, Sir George Staunton, Robert Nares, William Moseley, Samuel Hollingsworth (on Chinese); Adam Clarke, Henry Ford, G.C. Renouard, Edward Moises, J.F. Usko (on Arabic); Dr Coray (Adhamantios Korais), William Alers (on Modern Greek); David Brown, Claudius Buchanan, and William Carey on a number of Indian languages.

Biographical / Historical

Appointed to investigate the printing of the Scriptures in Chinese, the SC went on to consider other languages. The SC's last recorded meeting was in 1813, though it continued to exist until 1818.
