Smithson has pencilled '24/10' next to the following notes: '22. Natives are a fine race men being tall and well proportioned, women whilst young being distinctly good looking - costume of men consists of a waist belt or lava lava of coloured print reaching to the knees and in some cases a vest or singlet is worn as well; the women in addition to the lava lava s [sic] short or long bodice with or without sleeves generally the latter they are very fond of bright colours, pale pink with purple spots'.
