Roko Tui Bua: Ame: Osea, 1901
Scope and Contents
145 x 195 mm. In album 2, page 75. Ame and Osea were Fijian members of the crew of the cutter 'Aggie', owned by Mr. E. Wilkinson, which was wrecked in the Levuka hurricane on 1-14 March 1901. They were awarded Royal Humane Society Medals for their unsuccessful endeavours to save Wilkinson and another crew member, Ratu Mele. These were awarded by W.L. Allardyce, then Administrator of Fiji, at Government House in September 1901, and a press cutting from 'Western Pacific Herald' is included in the album. The photograph shows Ame and Osea wearing their medals. Behind them sits Roko Tui Bua, to whose province they belonged, and who spoke at the presentation.
