The picture contains many interesting details: people on the street (some the merest ghost images), the names of shops and banks and on almost every wall, posters enjoining the reader to ‘Vote for Kelly’. William Kelly (1840-1907) represented the East Coast, or Bay of Plenty District in Parliament from 1870-75, and again from 1887-1896.
