Beacon Hill Park, Victoria, 1919

 Item
Reference Code: GBR/0115/RCS/Y3062Q/106

Scope and Contents

From the Fonds:

A limp-bound book, number 36 of a numbered edition of 100, containing photogravure plates and coloured illustrations by various artists. Each page is preceded by a sheet containing the title and description; in most cases only the title is given in the typescript catalogue. Unless otherwise stated, the illustrations are full-page sepia photogravure, approximately 225 x 175 mm; the half-page coloured illustrations are c.125 x 85 mm.

The title page reads 'His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales' Tour of Canada August to October Nineteen Nineteen: Canadian Pacific Railway'. The brown limp cover (in poor condition) has the Prince of Wales' Feathers in gold and the lettering 'Sixty Days in Canada 1919: Canadian Pacific Railway'. Apart from indicating the C.P.R. as publisher, neither title is altogether accurate. This is not an account of the Royal Visit but a collection of scenes which, as described in the Foreword, 'visualise the journey planned for his Royal Highness'. The preliminaries comprise a list of the Royal Party, a three-page Foreword containing 'an introductory survey of the outstanding features of the Dominion of Canada' and the itinerary of the tour, with a map.
