Singapore from Mount Palmer, 1880 - 1889

 Item
Reference Code: GBR/0115/RCS/Y3022U/58

Scope and Contents

271 x 207 mm. View looking NE from Mount Palmer along the waterfront of Telok Ayer towards the centre of the town, with shipping anchored in the roadstead to the right. Johnston's Pier (see BAM 10/39) can be just made out in the distance. The photograph is particularly interesting in that it shows land reclamation work in progress at Talok Ayer in the foreground. This reclamation was approved by the Secretary of State in 1879 and the work completed eight years later. Photographer unknown, probably G R. Lambert & Co.
