[Giant bamboos at Peradeniya Botanical Gardens], 1880 - 1889
Scope and Contents
266 x 216 mm. Showing a huge clump of Dendrocalamus giganteus growing on the bank of the Mahawalia Ganga in Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. A figure is posed at the base as an indication of scale. The largest of the bamboo family and attaining a height of 100-120 feet, this species is a native of Burma and was introduced into the gardens in 1858.
