Suttee Chowra Ghat, Cawnpore, 1860 - 1869
Scope and Contents
319 x 187 mm. View looking along the riverbank towards the Sati Chaura Ghat, the landing place on the Ganges north of Wheeler's Entrenchment at Cawnpore where on 27 June 1857 the British garrison were ambushed and massacred after having been promised safe passage out of the town. Behind the landing place itself is a hexagonal temple dedicated to Shiva. See also Y3022L/31. No. 1208.
