Haldibiri N.B.S. after earthquake, 1885-07-14
Scope and Contents
283 x 227 mm. View looking along the platform at Haldibari, 42 miles W of the town of Cooch Behar, and showing subsidence and cracking. The date has not been ascertained, but it is most probable that this damage resulted from the earthquake of 14 July 1885 which had its epicentre a little to the NW of Dacca and sent shock waves as far north as Darjeeling. For an account of the intensity and damage, see C.S. Middlemiss, ‘Report on the Bengal Earthquake of July 14th 1885’ ('Records of the Geological Survey of India', vol xviii, pt 4, 1885, p 200-221). See also Y3022S/15, 16.
