 Item
Reference Code: GBR/0115/RCS/Y3022L/14

Scope and Contents

274x210mm. View of the Jumma Musjid from the south-east. The mosque stands slightly to the north-west of the walls of the Fort facing the Delhi Gate and was built by Shah Jahan and completed in 1644 after five year's work. The view shown here shows the mosque itself and part of the southern wall enclosing the courtyard. The grand gateway leading into the courtyard was destroyed by British forces during the Mutiny as it threatened the defences of the Fort. The mosque proper measures 130 by 100 feet and is surmounted by three domes of red sandstone with inlaid zig-zag patterns in white marble. Photographer unknown, possibly Sache, - , fl 1879-1899.
