Certificates and Ephemera, 1967 - 1975
Scope and Contents
Certificates presented to Roger Law by the Designers and Art Directors Association (D&AD), in recognition of his work for the publications Nova and The Sunday Times Magazine. There is also an issue of the D&AD's official newsletter, D&ADLine, published in September 1974. This issue features a photograph of one of Law's plasticine models, which depicts Lawrence Olivier as Richard III, and Kenneth Tynan as the former's humped back.
The following awards are present:
1. A 1967 silver award certificate 'for the best editiorial feature in a consumer magazine' category. This particular award relates to two plasticine model illustrations used in the October 1966 issue of Nova, which featured in an article about catholicism.
2. A 1972 silver award certificate for 'outstanding design for a complete magazine.'
3. A 1975 award presented to The Sunday Times Magazine for the 'consumer magazines, reportage' category (RL/Pre-/1142 (a)).
4. A 1975 award presented to Law for the 'consumer magazines' category (RL/Pre-/1142 (b)).
5. A 1975 award presented to The Sunday Times Magazine for the 'consumer magazines, features' category, specifically the 1975: Painting of the Year feature, which was 'devised' by Law (RL/Pre-/1142 (c)).
