The print shows a similar section of the street to that seen in Y3022GG/7, but is taken from a viewpoint nearer ground level, and at a later date: a considerable amount of new buildings can be seen, in particular along Hornby Row. On the skyline can be seen the tower of the Municipal Buildings (built 1889-92) at the junction of Hornby and Cruikshank Road. Immediately opposite the Floral Fountain, at the start of Hornby Row are the buildings occupied until 1896 by the Cathedral High School. These premises were taken over and enlarged by the Oriental Life Assurance Company. This print dates from after the enlargement of the buildings: see Y3022P/139 where the alterations can be seen in progress.
