Scope and Contents

295 x 233 mm. Scene on the driveway of Government House, showing two coaches drawn by camels with various drivers and household servants in attendance. Sir Robert Montgomery (1809-1887) is seated, with another figure, in the smaller coach at the right. Montgomery entered the Bengal Civil Service in 1827 and after service in various posts became Chief Commissioner of Oudh in 1858 and Lieutenant Governor of the Punjab 1859-65. Part of the porte cochere and front of the house can be seen at the right of the print. Photograph probably taken in early 1864, on 17 March of which year Bourne left Lahore at the start of his Kashmir trip (B.J.P., 5 October 1877, p. 474).
