A file holding a set of word-processed drafts of three autobiographical/family history essays, written by Anne Stevenson. The first essay is titled 'Rough Renderings,' and it is 28 pages long. It is primarily composed of Stevenson's reminisces and observations about her father, Charles, and extracts from his notes, following the death of her mother, Louise Destler Stevenson. There are also details about Stevenson's tour of the United States with her second husband, Mark Elvin, in the summer of 1963.

The second essay is titled, 'Tales I Never Told My Mother,' and there are two versions: one incomplete draft, pages numbered 1 to 19, but missing page 17; and the other 22 pages long, and marked 'first draft.' This essay is split into two sections. The first provides background family history on the Stevensons and the Destlers (maternal line), and how some of that history was incorporated into her work, Correspondences. The second section contains stories from her early childhood.

The final essay is titled, 'Tales My Mother Told About Me,' which appears to be a continuation of the 'first draft' of the essay immediately above, with its first page numbered in pencil as 23 and going up to what should be page 34, but has the word-processed number of 31. This essay is composed mostly of diary extracts written by Louise Destler Stevenson from 1936 to 1944, containing observations about Stevenson and her sister, Diana, as children.

Also present are three pages of handwritten notes.
