Autobiographical Writings, 1975 - 2014

 Sub-Series
Reference Code: GBR/0012/MS Add.9451/8/1

Scope and Contents

An assortment of autobiographical and family history-based articles/essays written by Anne Stevenson. The autobiographical works primarily focus on a period that stretches between her childhood and the late 1980s. However, some writings focus on her later years. In regards to the family history essays, which are found in the final file of this sub-series, they focus on Stevenson's parents and their immediate ancestors going back to the mid-nineteenth century.

The majority of these writings appear to have not been published. Exceptions to this are the articles for the publication, Contemporary Authors Autobiographical Series; and the essay, When the Kissing Had to Stop, which was published in an issue of Michigan Quarterly Review.
