M.V. [Vincent] del Tufo Collection, 1942 - 1945
Content Description
Documents relating to M.V. del Tufo's internment at Changi during the Second World War. Comprises:
- Handwritten note titled ‘Parole’, an attempt to remember the terms pledged by ‘3 Eurasians’ to be released in May 1942. Adrian Clark’s name is mentioned in the note.
- Photocopy of a letter sent by Tony [Churchill] to Marguerite Clark, Adrian Clark’s widow, in 1947 passing on to her the only copy of ‘The Whistle’ [see RCS/RCMS 396]
- Handwritten notes in the hand of M.V. del Tufo alleging that some stores for which he had been responsible had been stolen.
- Correspondence with Quah Chwee Leong of Hoon Seck Trading concerning four loans of $200 each made to four internees, including del Tufo, in 1943 and the postwar repayment of the loan, 1950.

Biographical / Historical
Vincent del Tufo (1901-1961) was a barrister and British colonial administrator in Malaya. At the time of the occupation of Malaya in 1942, he was serving as Director General of the Malayan Department of Supply. He was interned at Changi Gaol and Sime Road internment camps. After the Second World War, del Tufo oversaw the Malayan national census and rose to the position of Chief Secretary of the Federation of Malaya during the Malayan Emergency. He retired in 1952 and died in London in 1961. In 1935 he married Katharine Holdsworth; they had four sons, including Anthony del Tufo, and one daughter.
