Scope and Contents
144 x 197 mm. Mounted on card and signed on the mount. Head and shoulders portrait of Sir Godfrey Yeatman Lagden (1851-1934). Lagden joined the Civil Service in 1869 and worked in the Post Office until 1877. He became Chief Clerk to the State Secretary of the Transvaal in 1878 and in the following years acted as Secretary to various administrators, continuing his career in West Africa before being appointed Government Secretary, Basutoland in 1884. He served as Resident Commissioner, Basutoland 1893-1901, Commissioner for Native Affairs, Transvaal 1901-07 and Chairman, Inter-Colonial South African Native Affairs Commission 1902-04.
