 Item
Reference Code: GBR/0115/RCS/Y307G/35

Scope and Contents

265 x 207 mm. A view showing a man standing amongst dense ferns and shrubs. The typewritten caption on the back of the mount reads (in full): 'In the fern forest near the Volcano House, Kilauea, Hawaii, 1904. Tempest Anderson 1909.

The Volcano House at a height of about 4000 feet has a temperate climate, while at the sea level the heat is tropical. The low-lands are mostly cleared for sugar plantations; above this comes the forest zone reaching on the windward side to about the summit of Kilauea. To the leeward is the Kan desert where little rain falls.'
