Reference Code: GBR/0115/RCS/Y307A/62

Scope and Contents

224 x 178 mm. A view showing the harbour and town of St Thomas (the town itself is alternatively named Charlotte Amalia), the most westerly of the American Virgin Islands. At the time this photograph was taken (c.1885) the island belonged to Denmark. This photograph is taken from the landing wharf on the other side of the harbour from the town, and shows the three hills known as the fore-top, the main-top and the mizzen-top which rise beyond it. The photograph shows some good examples of sailing and steam ships moored in the harbour.
