Scope and Contents
Untitled album. Marked to frontispiece: 'L. Maddock 14/3/02'. Comprises a series of photographs taken by Maddock in his professional capacity for the Colombo Apothecaries Co., including of a stockade and elephant stampede (some of these images were reproduced in Y303Q/5, 'The Ceylon Kraal: a forest drama'), the visit of the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York (later King George V and Queen Mary) in 1901, and Diyatalawa camp, a prisoner-of-war camp for Boer soldiers, which Maddock was granted permission to visit in Nov. 1900. Where possible, the original captions have been recorded in single quotation marks.
