Poltergeist case files, 1836 - 1994
Scope and Contents
These files were compiled by the Society for Psychical Research to document reported poltergeist incidents. The level of documentation varies greatly from a single note or newspaper cutting to extensive case files. The titles and reference numbering used for each file are derived as far as possible from the original labelling - often the location and date. The dates provided in the title generally refer to the date of the incident first followed by the date(s) of the case documentation. Supplemental information relating to the types of records present (e.g. newspaper cuttings, correspondence, reports) and the names of correspondents are included where possible. The distinction between haunting and poltergeist cases was often unclear and researchers should also refer to the SPR hauntings files (ref. GBR/0012/MS SPR/Hauntings).
