 Item
Reference Code: GBR/0115/RCS/Y302B/29

Scope and Contents

255 x 199 mm. Showing a group of Burmese women dancers, with musicians at the right and spectators in the background. This photograph is reproduced in The Queen's Empire (1899) page 219 above the title 'A yein peve in Burma'. It is there stated that the photograph was taken in the course of a performance before Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence, 'on the occasions of a visit paid by him to the Swah Dagan Pagoda during the course of his voyage round the world in company with his royal brother Prince George'. This must refer to the voyage of the Bacchante in 1879-82, but Burma was not visited during the trip. Prince Albert did visit Burma in December 1889 - January 1890, but not in company of Prince George. Photograph by Watts and Skeen.
