This file includes brief reports of official visits made by Smedley during 1957 and 1958 to Darjeeling; the Asansol District; Bihar; Dhanbad, Ranchi and Chittaranjan; Kalimpong; Puri; Panighata (to visit the speaker Sankar Das Banerji); Pathna and Katmandu; the United Provinces; Saharanpur, Amritsar, Dhariwal, Ludhiana and Patiala; a tour of South India in 1959; a visit to Rajasthan in 1960; newspaper cuttings from ‘Hindustan Times’, Jan. 1960; a map of north-eastern India; staff lists; the text of a speech ‘On Heroes and Hero-Worship’ by Malcolm MacDonald, 5 June 1957; notes on personal accounts keeping and Smedley’s details of expenditure in New Delhi (circa 100 sheets).
