Scope and Contents

The collection includes original letters from Le Fleming to his mother Florence, known in the family as 'FM’. Subjects include Le Fleming’s travel to Malaya and within the region for work and leisure; descriptions of his duties and colleagues at the FMSR in Ipoh and Kula Lumpur; friends and social life; painting and design; holidays in Europe; the Malay and Chinese people; Malaya’s landscape, butterflies, botany and wildlife; training with the FMS Volunteer forces; and the deteriorating international situation leading to the Second World War.
