Scope and Contents

Two examples of a postcard produced by the company, Leeds Postcards, which features a photograph of members of the British Council of Organisations of Disabled People, whom are protesting beneath a Guardian newspaper billboard advertisement. This advertisement features a model illustration of the Britannia figure, which is depicted as a wheelchair-bound old woman. The back of the postcard gives the following description of the image: 'Disabled women protest against offensive stereotyping.' The photograph used on the front of the postcard was taken by Brenda Prince.

Spitting Image Productions Limited were contraced by the Guardian to make the plasticine model of Britannia that features in the advertisement, which was released in late 1991.
