Reference Code: GBR/0012/MS Add.10275/3/8/4/2

Scope and Contents

A file containing two letters from French sculptor, Etienne Aillaud, a member of the artisan company, Atelier Bombyx. The first letter is dated 21 February [c 1987-c 1988], and is addressed to Spitting Image Productions Limited artists, Pablo Bach and David Stoten. The letter is accompanied by photographs of foam/resin sculptures that Atelier Bombyx have produced for various clients. This letter was also originally accompanied by a number of chess pieces [see MS Add.10275/3/9/4/1], modelled on French politicians.

The second letter is addressed to 'Spitting Staff,' along with Stoten, Bach and Roger Law. The letter is undated, and is accompanied by photographs. Aillaud states his delayed response his due to 'an intense period of work,' and then proceeds to discuss projects and how Atelier Bombyx work with foam and resin for their sculptures.

Also present is a letter from Art Wood [not the brother of guitarist, Ronnie Wood] to David Stoten, dated 16 January 1991. Wood thanks Stoten for his letter of 4 January, before voicing his disappointment that the company [Spitting Image Productions Limited] keeps hold of all the original work that it produces. Wood asks if Stoten or any of the other artists that work for SIPL have any sketches, not drawn for the company, which he can have.
