General Public Correspondence, 1984 - 1987, 1990

 File
Reference Code: GBR/0012/MS Add.10275/3/8/2

Scope and Contents

A file containing mostly manuscript letters received by Spitting Image Productions Limited from members of the general public. Topics include, but are not limited to: praise and criticism over Spitting Image; requests from students for information about the show and its production; requests for pictures of the puppets and information about available merchandise; and enquiries on whether the show accepts script submissions from the public.

There are also documents with information from the duty officer's logs for December 1990, which detail complaints received by phone and mail about Spitting Image.

Also present is a photocopy of a letter addressed to the editor of the British magazine, The Listener, sent by Matthew Evans, Chairman of Faber & Faber, dated 27 September 1985. Evans confirms the assertions of a columnist at the magazine, regarding 'cold feet at Faber' publishing the publication, The Appallingly Disrespectful Spitting Image Book. Evans voices his displeasure on the book being published by the company [however, it is possible that this letter was a marketing ploy by the company].
