Scope and Contents
Volume of printed 'Forms No. 261' with handwritten entries for photographic plates made with the 13-inch Astrographic Equatorial. Covers plate nos 11554-11913 and D1-D339 (from 8 February 1958, when the telescope was re-erected in Dome 'D' at Herstmonceux). Numbered '14' on the spine. The volume opens with a list of observers and their initials.
Column headings are: no. of photo, date, observer, position of telescope, orient. screw and focus readings, R.A., Dec. North, Micrometer scale readings (R.A. and Dec.), clock times of exposures (begin, end, duration), barometer (external and internal therm.), plate and development, field of object, remarks, and signature. The volume opens with a list of observers and their initials. Includes two loose pages of notes. Photographs registered include H.A. fields, comets, asteroids Germania, Vesta, Massalia, Ariadne, Ampella, Juno, Pallas, and Nemausa etc., PZT field and more.
A note on 8 December 1953 states that the breech end of the telescope was removed to enable drawings to be made for the Markowitz apparatus for lunar photography. Another after plate 11913 states that observations ceased with the transfer of the Astrometry Department to Herstmonceux, 22 May 1956. The instrument was dismantled 21 November 1956 and stored at Herstmonceux. Entries resume on 8 February 1958 with new plate numbers beginning at D1.
