Scope and Contents
Volume of handwritten entries for photographic plates nos 1-1152, made with the 13-inch Astrographic Equatorial. Titled inside, 'Register of experimental photographs taken with the Grubb Refractor'.
Column headings include: date, position of telescope, orien. screw, observer (initials), R.A., Dec., Focus Reading, Micrometer scale readings (R.A. and Dec.), clock times of exposures (begin, end, duration), barometer (external and internal therm.), maker of plate, development, remarks (e.g. dark, good, duplicate, etc.), signature. The volume includes entries signed by Christies' "Lady Computers" as observers: A.E. [Alice Everett], E.R./E.M.R. [Edith Rix], and A.R. [Annie Russell]. The remarks are often detailed and includes issues with the instrument or plates. Includes observations of stars, Nova Aurigae and Saturn.
The volume is prefaced with notes on photo objectives and powers of eyepieces, and ends with a note dated 1 June 1893, 'After this the observations were entered into the book of printed forms numbered 261'.
