Scope and Contents

1. Three annotated draft versions of Maxwell’s article ‘The Malays and the Malaysians’, published in ‘The nineteenth century and after’, June 1945, 276-85, accompanied by amendments suggested by Sir Cheng Lock Tan and Sir Arnold Robinson, and correspondence related to its publication (circa 60 sheets).

2. Printed copy of the pamphlet ‘Malayan domicil and popular representation’ by John Laycock and Chin Tuan Tan.

3. Copy of a paper ‘Total federation’ written by S.W. Jones discussing the closer union of the Malay states (4 sheets)

4. Cutting from the ‘Sunday Express’ of the article ‘Colour bar must go’ by Brendan Bracken, Minister of Information, with a letter written by Maxwell in reply (5 sheets).
