Scope and Contents
This file contains a letter from Hugh Bryson to Sir Gerald Templer discussing a central element of the Briggs Plan to counter communist insurgents during the Malayan Emergency. Bryson describes how the idea to resettle Chinese squatters in protected areas, known as new villages, initially was conceived and implemented by Malayan civil servants in Selangor and Negri Sembilan. The file also contains Templer's reply (2 sheets).
