Scope and Contents

This file contains material on the history of the Girl Guides collected by Jean Cavendish, who was Chief Commissioner and one of the movement’s pioneers. It includes an essay ‘The early days of girl guiding in Malaya 1916-17’ written by Cavendish, ‘The history of the Girl Guide Movement in Malaya', probably published to celebrate the twenty-first birthday of the guides in 1938, and ‘Pioneer Work in Girl Guiding’ by F.S. Muthu. There is also a small bundle of newspaper clipping chronicling the movement and a letter from Cavendish to Hugh Bryson (60 sheets).
