Biographical / Historical

Idress Head Alvord (1873-1962), librarian and historian, was the wife of Professor Clarence Walworth Alvord (1868-1928), a distinguished American historian who undertook to write chapters on the American Revolution for the 'Cambridge history of the British Empire', which remained incomplete at the time of his death on 24 January 1928. Arthur Percival Newton (1873-1942) was Rhodes Professor of Imperial History at King's College London, 1920-1938, and an editor of the 'Cambridge history of the British Empire'.
