Correspondence of the Imperial Federation League, 1885 - 1893
Scope and Contents
Thirty-eight letters and memoranda dealing with a variety of subjects. The correspondence includes the original letter to members, 15 October 1886, urging renewed support, signed by Lord Rosebery, Chairman. There are sixteen items of correspondence with Lord Knutsford regarding the avoidance of party politics in the League and its journal, with particular reference to the correspondence between Cecil Rhodes and Charles Stewart Parnell on Irish politics, 1888. There are also eighteen items of correspondence, 1891-1892, between Lord Rosebery, the President, and A.H. Loring, the Secretary, regarding Rosebery's resignation as President and his views on the future of the League and on a possible change of name. There are three further miscellaneous items.
