Scope and Contents

This section is comprised of publications and talks by P.S. Laurie, historical manuscripts and tracts collected by him, and publications and manuscripts by RGO staff and others. Significant items include: a manuscript by Nevil Maskelyne on the subject of fireballs (RGO 107/7/2/3), 'Venus in the Sun' by Benjamin Martin, 1761 (RGO 107/7/2/1); 'Tracts relating to the Board of Longitude', 1763-1823 (RGO 107/7/2/2); a typescript concerning the astronomical instruments of King George III presented to Armagh Observatory (RGO 107/7/3/11); MSc dissertation by Gilbert E. Satterthwaite titled, 'The History of the Airy Transit Circle at the Royal Observatory Greenwich (RGO 107/7/3/14); and a typed autobiography by Clarice Chapman concerning her time in the Solar Department which includes a section on World War 2 (107/7/3/15).
