Loose documents were assembled into files by the archivist unless otherwise indicated. This section is ordered according to a publication list produced by Hawking’s office, which included publications up to May 2002 [see copies in MS.Add 10440/1/3 and /17/1]. The list is chronological, but does not adhere strictly to publication date. The list does not distinguish between technical and popular writings, or between books and articles. All works included on the list are included in this series, without judgement as to whether they would conventionally be considered published. Works that were not included on the list but were clearly published in some form are included at the end of the list in chronological order, as are later works published after the 2002 listing. In some cases where publications were based on a lecture (or vice versa), there are prepublication drafts in the lecture series, MS Add.10440/19 [which was mostly acquired in labelled folders].
