Brittany Drawings (Photographs), c 1960-c 1961
Scope and Contents
A file containing photographic representations of four charcoal drawings that were done by Roger Law, while he and his wife, Deirdre Amsden, were on holiday in Brittany, France, with Richard Fletcher and his family, in 1959. The original charcoal drawings were destroyed in a fire. The file holds large black and white photographs and negatives. The following copies of drawings are present: a landscape of the Brittany coastline (RL/Pre-/880); a portrait of a Breton woman (RL/Pre-/889); another landscape scene (RL/Pre-/890); and a drawing of rugged coastal rocks (RL/Pre-/891).
These drawings, along with others, were later submitted to the Royal College of Art for consideration and Law was offered a place, which he subsequently declined in favour of employment with The Observer. The illustration of coastal rocks would later be used in an issue of The Observer Weekend Review, in January 1964.
