Wood Printing Blocks, 1957 - 1960
Scope and Contents
A box containing five wooden printing blocks with engravings by Roger Law, which were done while Law was studying at the Cambridge School of Art. The printing blocks have the following:
1. An engraving of a moorhen in a pond/lake setting, measuring 100mm x 152mm x 21mm (RL/Pre-/692). On the reverse of the block there is an engraved image of a pot of cacti by an unknown artist.
2. A logo 'RD' for an advertisement put in the autumn 1960 issue of the magazine, Ffobia, which advertised Law's and Deirdre Amsden's services in design, illustration and typography; measuring 45mm x 77mm x 22mm (RL/Pre-/1018 (e)).
3. An engraved image of a goose hung in a kitchen or other domestic setting that was produced for an examination, measuring 127mm x 100mm x 22mm (RL/Pre-/1128). On the reverse, there is another engraving, though it is unknown whether this is by Law or another student.
4. An engraved image, known as 'Harvesting III,' which depicts an agricultural setting, measuring 128mm x 101mm x 22mm (RL/Pre-/1129). On the reverse, there is another engraving, though it is unknown whether that is attributed to Law.
5. Engraved images of St. George's Parish Church in Littleport, Cambridgeshire, on both the front and reverse sides, measuring 77mm x 39mm x 23mm (RL/Pre-/1130).
